There is a city in the east facing encirclement by Russian forces and each day it becomes a little harder to get supplies and soldiers in, and the wounded out. Today Preston is joined by Francis Farrell, a journalist for the Kyiv Independent who recently traveled this road to showcase just how precarious it is.

The Kyiv Independent’s Francis Farrell and Olena Zashko follow Ukraine’s 24th Mechanized Brigade on the “road of life” between the front-line cities of Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka, the first of the four “fortress belt” cities to see Russian soldiers reach its outskirt. the road to Kostiantynivka forms the backbone of the so-called “fortress belt” of Donbas, connecting it to the rest of Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk Oblast.

We owe much more to Ukraine than Ukraine owes us. When I say “we” I mean the United States, Europe, and every nation across this vast globe where freedom still rings for its people. Wherever there is freedom today, there is a huge debt owed to Ukraine. Think of it. What would have happened if Ukraine decided that their struggle was too much to pay for freedom, and they had surrendered to Putin’s quest for Russian domination. Remember the words of Volodymyr Zelenskyy to President Biden point-blank: “I need ammunition, not a ride.”

If he had chosen that ride instead, this would be a far different world than it is today. It would have been a world on its way to oppression, domination and exploitation. On this, the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of this great nation, think back to those days and the horrendous Winter at Valley Forge. What kind of world would this be today if General Washington had not urged his tattered army to have courage and believe in a vision much great than themselves?

For Ukrainians, The Winter of 2025 was their Valley Forge, only much more terrifying and devastating than the one Washington and his men survived. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the immense courage and determination of the army and people of Ukraine and their leader – heroes and heroines every one.

Although our present administration and Congress may not support the Ukrainian effort to combat Russian aggression, there is no reason why We the People should not support Ukraine’s sovereign future. Become a Freedom Fighter in your own right by contributing to either Ukrainian humanitarian efforts or directly to the Army of Ukraine. There are several ways to do so…
